Life in the UK Test: free practice, guides and chapter notes

Facts checked on GOV.UK on 5 October 2026.

You may need to pass the Life in the UK Test when you apply to settle in the UK or to become a British citizen. The test has 24 questions about British traditions and customs, and you have 45 minutes to answer them. It costs £50 (Life in the UK Test).

Some people do not need to take the test. For example, you do not need it if you are under 18, if you are 65 or over, or if you passed it before.

This section helps you get ready. The practice app has full mock tests, and a Focus mode that puts the questions you find hardest first. You do not need an account, and your progress stays on your own device.

The chapter notes below explain the main facts of each chapter in plain words. The guides answer common questions about booking, the test day and your result.
